INTRODUCTION We would like to invite postgraduate candidates from Faculty of Islamic Studies and students from Philosophy of Science and Civilisations (UHW6023) to present a paper for our bi-annual Seminar on Fiqh Science and Technology 2012. Briefing presented to more than 400 Kafa teachers from all over Perak’s was held on February 23, 2012 at the Perak Islam Administration Institute (INTIM), Perak Islamic Religious Department (JAIPk), represented by Mr. Saiful Azizi bin Hj. Abdul Manap (INTIM Director) and Mr. Nasar Mohamed bin Kurdi (Chief Assistant Director of Education Division JAIPk). A discussion on collaboration between the Faculty of Islamic Civilization, UTM and Darul Ridzuan Islamic College (KISDAR) was held on February 14, 2012 Meeting Room of the Faculty of Islamic Civilization, UTM, JB. PM Azmi Shah bin Suratman, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Civilization, UTM has led discussions with representatives from KISDAR represented by Dr. Ahmad Husni bin Hj. Hasan, KISDAR Deputy Rector and Mr. Salman bin Saaid, Head of Curriculum Department KISDAR. Among the issues raised in the discussion is about degree collaboration for Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Philosophy between FTI and KISDAR.
Briefing for new students taking Masters and Ph.D courses at Faculty of Islamic civilization was held on February 13, 2012 at the al-Marbawiy Hall, FTI, involved 33 lecturers and 14 new students a Master and Doctor of Philosophy.
The Faculty of Science was established in 1973 at Jalan Semarak, Kuala Lumpur. In the early years it was known as the Centre of Science Studies. In 1981 the Centre was upgraded and renamed the Faculty of Science of the Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The faculty was initially comprised of four departments namely the Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, and the Science & Technical Education Departments. In 1988 the faculty was officially relocated to Skudai Johor. Since then, the Faculty has expanded in terms of physical facilities, academic programmes, number of students and staff members. To date, we house three main departments; the Department of Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematical Sciences, plus two additional institutes; the Ibnu Sina Institute for Fundamental Science Studies (IIS) and the Advance Photonic Science Institute (APSI). The departments and centres provide excellent teaching facilities, well-equipped laboratories and qualified academic staff.
The Faculty of Science currently conducts Undergraduate Programmes leading to the Bachelor of Science Degrees in Industrial Physics, Industrial Chemistry and Industrial Mathematics and Bachelor of Science Degrees in Physics, Chemistry and mathematics. In addition, we offer Post-graduate programmes (MSc and PhD) in the fi elds of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The MSc programmes are conducted either through research or Taught Course, while the PhD programmes are purely research. Our academic staff are also involved in active research, either in dynamic research groups within the respective departments or other faculties of the university.
